'Judiciary' official publicises imminent execution of 9 political prisoners PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03 February 2010
Ebrahim Raeesi, deputy to Iran's judiciary chief, falsely claimed on Tuesday that the two prisoners executed on January 28 had been arrested in "recent riots." And, in a bid to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation he added: "nine others will be executed soon." He emphasized that all the necessary measures to prevent “riots” on February 11 have been taken.

According to official Fars News Agency, Raeesi, a member of the "death committee" responsible for the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988, underlined Judiciary's plan in dealing with demonstrators on February 11 and said: "Our Judiciary has firmly marshalled all its forces and has placed the identification of the agents of the recent seditions on its agenda." He emphasized on "Judiciary's approach is to deal with these cases as soon as possible" and that "we will continue on the path of confronting rioters until the end, we will root out the source of the sedition".

The mullahs' criminal prosecutor has described the charges of the 11 political prisoners sentenced to death and some others who have been put on trial as "moharebeh" (waging war on God) by way of supporting and having contacts with PMOI, forming associations and collusion with the intention of disrupting the security of the country and propaganda against the establishment.

The regime is trying in vain to prevent expansion of Iranian people's uprising by resorting to executions, imprisonment and torture. However, these crimes have only strengthened the Iranian people’s resolve to continue their uprising until a total regime change that they have been demanding.

We call on the United Nations Secretary General, the UN Security Council and all relevant international organizations to adopt urgent and binding decisions to force the Tehran regime to free political prisoners and end torture and executions. Any delay on the part of the international community in adopting firm measures against these atrocities would only encourage the Iranian government to continue and intensify brutal suppression and killing of brave women and youth who have risen for most basic rights engraved in UN charters.
